Culture at large is at a loss to answer why good things happen to bad people or why bad things happen to good people.
Christianity says that all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God, but the gift of God is eternal life to all who believe. God has sent the rain on both the just and unjust.

Culture at large says: “Follow your heart” even if it leads to disaster.
